Last night Harry & I slept in the parking lot of the Chevy dealer in Aztec, NM. This morning I had new thermostats installed. I could have done this in my driveway in two or less hours. Now a few hundred dollars lighter, we hit the road headed north. “The price of doing business” as they say. Happy to be able to keep moving. Didn’t get the fuel filter head installed as they didn’t have that part in stock. Ordered one for pickup in Montrose CO in a few days.

Back in my college days, I spent a year plus on the student newspaper as a photographer. My forté at the time was shooting football. I was good enough I convinced the athletic association to grant me my own personal press pass for every football game. All I need do in return was supply them a few shots from the previous game. Easy work! And I didn’t have to fight with other newspaper staffers for one of the few press passes they gave the student newspaper. My pictures ended up in game programs & team guides.
Back in those days, black & white ruled the newspaper world. And I loved B&W photography. Not only did I spend countless hours in the darkroom, but I even got paid to do the large page developing of negatives for the actual paper. Sadly, none of that exists anymore. Everything is digital and done on a desktop PC. But like classic rock, it truly was great while it lasted. I’ll always love B&W more that color photography. Color can help “save” a mediocre shot, while B&W accentuates all — good or bad.
Now I have a digital Nikon D750 with a couple of lenses. As I believe I’ve mentioned previously, my “goal” is to shoot the fall colors of Colorado. I’ll be taking a lot of shots with the Nikon, however my Substack photos will all be from my phone for simple ease of production. “Pro” digital gear is new to me. We’ll see how it goes.
It’s really is amazing what an iPhone 11 will do.
The clouds were highly cooperative today!
Silverton
These are a few random shots in Silverton. Sadly the great lighting & clouds I had on the way here devolved into rather bland light. I’m staying on Main Street by “city hall” tonight and maybe tomorrow hoping for better lighting in the next day or so.
Town is not too busy but my understanding is it gets busier when the train arrives. I missed that.
More to come tomorrow (I hope)!
(With the camera).
I also have fond memories of Silverton. Beautiful country and thanks for the moment with Bob.
Nice…thanks for sharing.
